4th of July

Standard

I am busy baking – finally, finally, I shall post something that is actually baking related. Tomorrow.

Soundtrack du jour: Aimee Mann – “4th of July”. Fitting.

“Oh, baby, I wonder if when you are older — someday,
You’ll wake up and say, ‘My God I should have told her
What would it take
But now here I am, and the world’s gotten colder…
She’s got the river, down which I sold her’.”

Star power. Hahahah. Well a huge number of Opera employees are expats from all over the place, so I don't think there is any special cachet in that. The baking is the only thing that brings any star power (and that's tenuous). 🙂 It's been so long since I lived in the US that people don't actually imagine that I am American. People who have known me at work for several years still express surprise when I say, "Yeah, I am American." They imagine, I guess, that I am Icelandic because I spent most of my adult life in Iceland (and am a citizen). Easy enough mistake to make except that my English and my accent should give it away.Yes, the irony about fireworks is not lost on me. And lunch is coffee.

Since you've lived in Washington, I'm sure the irony of buying (illegal) fireworks from, and enriching, the very people that suffered the most in the creation of this country is not lost on you. Okay, I'm putting my soapbox away for another year. Good morning. What's for lunch? I guess some of the Opera employee star-power is wrapped in your being an ex-pat.

I hated the 4th of July when I lived in the US as well. I generally plotted to escape to Canada every time. And yes, it is just another day in Sweden and Norway, thankfully. 🙂

I personally hate the 4th of July. I don't feel independent from so many things at all. I imagine it's just another day in Sweden and Norway. Lucky. Can't wait to see what you've crafted in the oven.
