The man who
drew the firstmap was able
to see throughthe eye
of a bird.Fields speckled
with snoware covered
in cloudslike dark faces
veiled twice.I have told
you too much,forgive us both.
O sun,O stainless fuselage,
weave usbetween the veils
before we darkenand dip into
the twinkling net.Each small town
a blemishon the night’s skin,
each citya tumor of light.
